‘Parent Space’ is a pilot workshop series for all parents, carers and early years educators of children. It’s open to anyone from the wider Easton community, not just families who have registered with us.

We wanted to respond to parent requests - to help support families to thrive. There will be six workshops, alternating between Saturday mornings and Monday evenings over the next six months, starting on 6 July 2019.

The series of workshops intends to:

  • build confidence and an understanding of child development

  • provide a space to reflect on the joys and challenges of becoming a parent

  • help to create a child-centred and consistent environment in which all our children can thrive

  • remind us to look after ourselves along the way too …

Please note: so that you can get the most out of them, these workshops are child-free spaces so please make your own arrangements for childcare.

Parent Space Workshops are generously supported by Quartet Community Foundation

Becoming a Parent

Parenting Styles

How do we become the parents our children most need?

What do we want to keep and what do we want to lose from our own experiences of being parented?

How can we deal with parental pressure, social norms, and cultural differences?

We will be exploring how to bring full awareness to challenging situations and find wise solutions.

Being a Good Enough Parent

What exactly is good enough from a child’s perspective?

How do we find the right balance between invasive and neglectful parenting?

We will explore the connection between our emotional wellbeing as parents and the environment we create for our children.

Behaviours

What’s behind human behaviours?

How was our behaviour managed and how does that influence our response as parents?

What kind of limits and support is helpful for our children?

We will be exploring fun ways to make sense of our children’s behaviour, and how to set firm and loving boundaries that are developmentally helpful.

Phases of Development

What are normal phases of development?

How do we know what is appropriate for each phase?

We will be exploring how to help our children to manage transitions, as well as understanding the similarities and differences between phases and why our children go backwards as well as forwards in their development.
